If you’re looking for a dopamine hit by way of the delicious escapism that is celebrity and pop culture news then look no further. We have been blessed with a joyful slew of it today! There must be something in the air and that’s not even a reference to the date on your James Franco selfie calendar.
Join me in reviewing a handful things worth celebrating (including today’s actual holiday).
1. Official: Harriet Tubman will be on the new 20 dollar bill.
The U.S. Treasury Department has a big announcement today: Harriet Tubman will soon grace the $20 bill. Getting a woman on a bill may feel like a sweet — if not absurdly long overdue — victory, but getting an anti-slavery hero on a bill which heretofore featured a slaveowner is on another level of Fuck. Yes.
That might be the only celebrity news we ever need again.
2. Oh yes: Rihanna dropped a new video at high noon today.
Rihanna unveiled a new video today for her song “Needed Me.” It’s directed by Harmony Korine and, if you’re familiar with this work, I think that will make a lot of sense upon viewing it. That’s to say: it’s NthatSFW. But is Rihanna ever?
3. Obvi: Jennifer Aniston is People’s Most Beautiful Woman (again).
Although this title is about a million miles past subjective, a shout-out to ladies over 40 isn’t the worst thing. Let’s hope their picks within pay homage to the many other diverse definitions of beauty as well.
Also, I could have sworn this was at least her 20th such crown but, according to Google, it’s only her second. Maybe she’s just that pretty?
4. Omg: Tina Fey is working on a Mean Girls Musical.
Tina Fey confirmed in an interview last night that everyone’s favorite post-millennial coming-of-age movie is about to get a re-up. “We’re working on the musical adaptation, which we’re very excited about,” says Fey of her summer plans, dwarfing all of ours in one swift breath.
5. On point: James Corden and Gwenyth Paltrow take a dance class.
Last night James Corden and Gwenyth Paltrow confirmed what we all suspected: tiny dancers hold us closer (together). Above, watch them learn the creative choreography of toddlers. It’s super fresh. And I mean that in a literal sense because these kids were basically just born.
P.S. Ok fine: It’s 4/20 and the internet has several thoughts and ideas.
For the stoner-inclined, a modest roundup of marijuana roundups:
